A long sand spit which curves out almost halfway across the sheltered inland waterway between the mainland and Adele Island at low water is a never to be forgotten wedding location. The sand spit makes an ideal aisle to walk down and at the end, a quiet, reflective place to take your wedding vows.
A sheltered cove providing calm water from sea breezes.
A very sheltered beach with interesting arches and caves at the northern end surrounded by bright green tree-ferns.
This is a very photogenic bay with golden sands forming a perfect crescent beach. A walking track from here leads up to Pitt Head, which was the site of an old Maori Pa site. The Pa is now gone but some of the earth works are still visible and the commanding location and views are impressive.
The island is part of the Tonga Island Marine Reserve and home to a breeding colony of New Zealand fur seals, which accumulate to pup in December and January. Seals are present for most of the summer months and are very friendly and photogenic. Little Blue penguins also live on Tonga Island. Another feature of Tonga Island is it’s magnificent granite arches. Please note that it is not possible to go ashore at Tonga Island but you may wish to have your ceremony onboard moored beside the island then go ashore at another beach for photos.
