The Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Tekapo has captured the hearts of couples from all over the world and is a quaint and unassuming but enormously romantic venue for your New Zealand wedding. A large panoramic window behind the altar is deliberately clear to allow an uninterrupted view of Lake Tekapo and the spectacular Southern Alps mountain range beyond and is a serene place to stand and say your wedding vows.
The Church of the Good Shepherd sits literally only metres from the shores of the turquoise coloured, glacier-fed Lake Tekapo and the view to the magnificent snow-topped mountain ranges in the distance is something wedding couples remember for the rest of their lives.
Situated in the beautiful Mackenzie Country, Lake Tekapo and The Church of the Good Shepherd is an easy 2½ to 3 hour drive from the South Island city of Christchurch. The tiny township of Lake Tekapo is situated at the southern end of the lake and offers Cafes, Restaurants, Accommodation and glorious views up the lake to the alps beyond.

The Church of the Good Shepherd is currently part of the Mackenzie Cooperating Parish (Anglican/Presbyterian) and is available for interdenominational Christian weddings conducted by licensed clergy. Civil Marriage Celebrants are not permitted to conduct ceremonies in the church.
Church of the Good Shepherd Wedding Package Inclusions:
The following Wedding Package is priced for a couple with no guests and includes all of the basic requirements to get married at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Tekapo, New Zealand.
- Arrangement of your New Zealand Marriage License including application fee. We will file the application for your New Zealand Marriage License on your behalf prior to your arrival to New Zealand.
- Pre-wedding consultation in Christchurch including assistance to uplift your New Zealand Marriage License. New Zealand law requires that at least one of you be present to sign a declaration at a registered marriage office prior to your wedding so it is very important that you arrange your itinerary to allow time on a week day prior to your wedding day to do this.
- Hire of the Church of the Good Shepherd for your wedding ceremony. This includes a church attendant to ensure the privacy of your wedding ceremony.
- Arrangement of and fee for the local parish Minister to officiate your wedding ceremony. This includes a pre-wedding ceremony rehearsal with the Minster at the Church office in Fairlie.
- Church Organist.
- Arrangement of a Standard New Zealand Marriage Certificate including application fee and courier of this to you at home. After your wedding you will need a formal document to confirm the details and legal validity of your marriage for presentation in your home country. In most cases you will be able to use the Particulars of Marriage Form that you sign on your wedding day for this purpose but we will also order a Standard New Zealand Marriage Certificate for you which bear’s the official stamp of the New Zealand Registrar of Marriages and is issued approximately 4-6 weeks after your wedding. This is accepted as proof of marriage in most countries. If you are from Austria, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, The Netherlands and some other countries your Marriage Certificate will require further verification, please let us know if you are from one of these countries so we can advise you of any additional fees and make the necessary arrangements on your behalf.
- Our basic wedding coordination fee. This includes your own personal wedding planner to communicate with you and make all the necessary wedding arrangements on your behalf. A Wedding Company Representative will also be present on the day to assist you and to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
