Chapel by the Lake Weddings New Zealand
Chapel by the Lake weddings in New Zealand are all about romance in a truly breathtaking setting. Just 15 minutes from Queenstown this authentic stone Wedding Chapel has panoramic views of the magnificent Lake Hayes and mountain ranges and is set amidst 5ha of beautiful water gardens and vineyards, including ponds, waterfalls, historic drays and the stone ruins of Mayne’s Hotel, dating back to 1857. Constructed from schist rock and century old Church beams with ponds and waterfalls immediately adjacent, Chapel by the Lake seeks to provide a peaceful and tranquil setting for your New Zealand wedding.
The magnificent views from both inside the Chapel and surrounding grounds make for a multitude of superb photographic opportunities. For those who want the extra height and backdrop of the mountains, a short helicopter ride is only minutes away to New Zealand’s most spectacular mountains, the ‘Remarkables’.

Chapel by the Lake is perfect for both small intimate weddings or larger groups. The Chapel will seat between 60-70 guests and additional guests can be accommodated standing (up to 120 all together). Honeymoon and guest accommodation is also available at the adjacent Stoneridge Lodge.
Chapel bookings are for up to 2.25 hours per the following allocated times:
10.00am to 12.15pm
1.00pm to 3.15pm
4.00pm to 6.15pm
Twilight and evening weddings (perfect for a ceremony by candle-light) after 6.30pm are also available by arrangement.
The 4.00pm to 6.15pm time slot is only available on Fridays and Saturdays whereby the Chapel is booked in conjunction with a reception at Stoneridge Lodge.
Chapel by the Lake Wedding Package Inclusions:
The following Wedding Package is priced for a couple with no guests and includes all of the basic requirements to get married at the Chapel by the Lake in Queenstown, New Zealand.
- Arrangement of your New Zealand Marriage License including application fee. We will file the application for your New Zealand Marriage License on your behalf prior to your arrival to New Zealand.
- Pre-wedding consultation in Queenstown including assistance to uplift your New Zealand Marriage License. New Zealand law requires that at least one of you be present to sign a declaration at a registered marriage office prior to your wedding so it is very important that you arrange your itinerary to allow time on a week day prior to your wedding day to do this.
- Hire of Chapel by the Lake for your wedding ceremony. Includes exclusive use of the Chapel and grounds for the allocated time period including access to the Chapel for a pre-wedding rehearsal, four silk floral arrangements and pew ribbons.
- Arrangement of and fee for a New Zealand Civil Marriage Celebrant or Minister (Presbyterian, Anglican or Catholic) to officiate at your wedding ceremony. Your Celebrant or Minister will contact you by email to put together your personalized wedding ceremony and will meet with you at the Chapel prior to your wedding to rehearse the ceremony with you.
- Arrangement of a Standard New Zealand Marriage Certificate including application fee and courier of this to you at home. After your wedding you will need a formal document to confirm the details and legal validity of your marriage for presentation in your home country. In most cases you will be able to use your copy of the Particulars of Marriage Form that you sign on your wedding day for this purpose but we will also order a Standard New Zealand Marriage Certificate for you which bear’s the official stamp of the New Zealand Registrar of Marriages and is issued approximately 4-6 weeks after your wedding. This is accepted as proof of marriage in most countries. If you are from Austria, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, The Netherlands and some other countries your Marriage Certificate will require further verification, please let us know if you are from one of these countries so we can advise you of any additional fees and make the necessary arrangements on your behalf.
- Our basic wedding coordination fee. This includes your own personal wedding planner to communicate with you and make all the necessary wedding arrangements on your behalf. A Wedding Company Representative will also be present on the day to assist you and to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
